This year we are proud to present our adaptation of Romeo and Juliet: What if…?

The story of these star crossed lovers is universally known. A forbidden love between the children of two rival families.

In our modern mindset, it’s hard to imagine two family’s rivalry having such an impact. We know about mobs and gangs, but we wanted to shine a light on what we do experience in our every day life; Choices.

Every part of this heartbreaking story consists of so many choices the characters make, which could have been different ones.

What makes you choose the one path over the other? Social pressure? Insecurity? Having the courage to be vulnerable, or the wisedom to hold back? Our social media might be overflowing with personal development coaches, but in Shakespeare’s time, psychology wasn’t even invented yet.

In our adaptation, we will shine a light on the big and small moments where one decision, could have changed everything.

80% of our play is in the original lines from 1595. The other part is written as adaptation by our artistic director: Jo van der Meij.
